April 15, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

books on shelf

Richmond Hill resident and author/journalist Ellin Bessner brings the untold stories of the 17,000 Canadians of Jewish Faith who served in the Second World War. They faced a “double threat” as Mackenzie King told them: not only were they fighting for King and Country, but also for the survival of the Jewish People in the face of Hitler’s Final Solution. And they themselves faced great personal danger, should they be captured by the Nazis, and their own Jewish identity be discovered. Ellin is the author of “Double Threat: Canadian Jews, the Military and WWII”, published by the University of Toronto’s New Jewish Press. Books will be available for sale and signing at the event. She lives in Richmond Hill with her husband, and two sons.
