Take a “virtual tour” of Normandy’s WW2 graveyards + “meet” Canada’s Jewish soldiers buried there

January 29, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am EST

Join Ellin LIVE on Friday January 29, 2021 at 9 a.m. Toronto time, when she is the special guest on the acclaimed YouTube show WW2TV, with host Paul Woodadge. Woodadge is a battlefield tour guide based in Bayeux, France. His live-streamed shows explore every inch of the northern French countryside, where Allied soldiers took on the Nazis during the Second World War. Take a live tour of the Beny-sur-Mer and Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian war cemeteries in Normandy. With cameras at both locations, you will “see” the graves, learn their stories, and pay tribute in a moving Jewish memorial service.

Ellin’s book “Double Threat: Canadian Jews, the Military and WWII” tells the untold story of the 17,000 Canadians of Jewish faith who fought Hitler, and then rescued the survivors of the Holocaust. They faced widespread antisemitism at home, in the military, and on the battlefield, and served at great personal risk should they be captured by the enemy and their Jewish identities be discovered.

About 70 Jewish Canadian men are among the casualties of the fighting who are buried in Normandy’s war cemeteries, mainly in Beny-sur-Mer and Bretteville-sur-Laize. Many others earned bravery medals for their efforts in the Normandy Invasion in the summer of 1944.
