Conversation with Deborah Levison about the Holocaust, evil, trauma and resiliency
November 13, 2022 @ 12:00 pm
Canadian writer Deborah Levison grew up in Toronto as the daughter of Holocaust survivors who had made new lives in Canada, after the war. But the family’s peaceful cottage in Muskoka became the scene of a grisly murder sparked by domestic violence. Their surprise discovery of the victim’s body under that cottage in 2010, made international headlines. And Levison chronicled the hunt for the real killer, in her first semi-autobiographical book called The Crate.
Now she’s launching her first novel, Nest of Snakes, about sexual abuse and torture at a (fictional) prestigious all-boy’s school in the United States.
Levison lives in Connecticut now, but is returning to Toronto for several events, including the launch Sunday Nov. 13 at 12 p.m. at Beit Rayim Synagogue and School in Thornhill. It is a fundraiser for the synagogue and Canadian Hadassah Wizo of Toronto.
Join me in conversation with Levison, as we talk about the themes which she explores in both her books: evil, trauma and resiliency.
