Ellin speaks at Limmud 2023
April 30, 2023 @ 10:30 am – 11:30 am EDT
Ellin brings her The CJN Daily podcast to conduct a live taping of an episode at Toronto’s Limmud 2023.
The CJN Daily is the flagship daily news podcast of The Canadian Jewish News. From breaking news about antisemitism to investigative stories about Israel’s Aroma Espresso Bar in Canada, or Benjamin’s funeral home’s legal dispute with grieving families, we cover stories that impact Canada’s Jewish community. At home. In Israel. And Abroad. Come watch a live taping of a CJN Daily episode: see how the show gets made, and ask the host and her special guest your own questions.
This special live taping will feature an interview with Mitch Consky. He is a Toronto-based journalist who lost his father at the start of the pandemic lockdown (not from COVID) and wrote about how he moved back into his family’s house during COVID to spend as much time as possible with his dad before he died. The book came out a few months ago, and we will tape this show to run ahead of Father’s Day.
Mitchell Consky is a Toronto-based journalist and writer who has been published by CTV News, the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, the Walrus and BNN Bloomberg.
In April 2020, Consky received the news that his father was diagnosed with a rare and terminal cancer, with less than two months to live. Leaning into his journalistic intuitions, Mitchell interviewed his father daily, making audio recordings of final talks, emotional goodbyes, and the unexpected laughter that filled his father’s final days. Serving as a catalyst for fatherly affection, these interviews became an opportunity for emotional confession during the slowed-down time of a shuttered world, and reflect how far a family went in making a dying loved one feel safe at home. These interviews and memories were the inspirations for Mitchell Consky’s first book “Home Safe: A Memoir of End-of-Life Care During Covid-19.“
